Minister of Correctional Services – DR PIETER GROENEWALD, MP
Pieter Groenewald was born on 27 August 1955 in Fochville. He matriculated from Gymnasium High School in Potchefstroom. He obtained a B.Iuris (law) Degree from the Potchefstroom University (Northwest University) and worked at Krygkor.

He later completed a postgraduate diploma in communication studies and his master’s degree in public management and development. He also holds a doctorate in political studies from the Northwest University.

Prior to being elected as a Member of Parliament in 1989, he served as the Mayor of Stilfontein. In 1994 he was re-elected to Parliament where he served as the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Defence in the National Assembly from 1994 to 1999. In 1999 he was elected as a Member of the North West Provincial Legislature where he served until 2001 when he returned to Parliament.

He served on the first ministerial interim National Defence Force Service Commission until 2012. He was a founding member of the Freedom Front. He previously served as the Federal Chairperson of the party. In 2016 he was elected as the National Leader and re-elected in 2021. In 2024 he was re-elected to the National Assembly and was appointed as the Minister of Correctional Services.

He is married and lives in Stilfontein, North West. His hobbies include karate, photography and gardening. He was the first person in South Africa to ride five horses simultaneously, known as Roman Riding.

BIOGRAPHY OF DEPUTY MINISTER Ms LINDIWE NTSHALINTSHALI

She was born in the then area called “Witbank” in a township called Lynville and now called eMalahleni.

She is married to Mr. Ntshalintshali and they are blessed with 3 sons Sithembiso (23), Mbuso (12) and Mnqobi (6). She is a full-time mother and does not compromise on spending time with family.

She furthered her studies at the Mpumalanga Nursing College and completed her in-service training hours at Middelburg Hospital in 2005 and qualified as a Nurse.

She was then deployed as the Member of the Mayoral Committee at eMalahleni Local Municipality in 2005. She acquired the following accolades;

  • Certificate in Nursing Auxiliary 2006;
  • Executive Leadership in Municipal Development 2007;
  • Programme in Municipal Finance 2007 (CPMD);
  • Programme in Leadership Development (CPLD) 2009 in the University of Witswatersrand, University of Johannesburg (Faculty of Commerce, Law & Management) and the University of Pretoria (Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences) School of Public Management and Administration.
  • Diploma in Nursing and Patient Care; 2023

PUBLIC SERVICE PROFILE

  • Elected as a Provincial Executive Committee member of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) 2013 – 2015
  • In 2018, she was appointed as a PET Coordinator to run the Elections for the ANC in the Mpumalanga Province.
  • Chairperson of the subcommittee of International Relations (SALGA) 2015 – 2018
  • Chairperson of Climate change SALGA 2015 – 2018
  • Chairperson of the Social Transformation Sub-committee ANC 2012 – 2015
  • Appointed as the Executive Mayor of eMalahleni Local Municipality 2015 – 2016
